Faribault outlasts Waseca 9-6

The Lakers couldn't have asked for a better start, with two runners on without a benefit of a hit, Austin Rendler blasted a three run shot to give the Lakers a first inning 3-0 lead.

But the Braves struck back with vengeance in the top of the fourth with Keaton Roeker hitting a misplayed triple to score two runs. Three of the next four Braves would reach as they took a 4-3 lead.

The Lakers knotted the game at four in the fourth inning. Drew Conrad tripled with one out and scored on an Aiden Tobin bunt single up the first base line.

Waseca took the lead back in the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, Joey Grote made a great play to get a force out on a Chris Glynn groundout at second base, but a run scored to give the lead back to the Braves 5-4.

But an eventful sixth inning saw the Lakers retake the lead. Grote led off with a double to deep left field. Two wild pitches plated Grote. With two outs Rendler reached on a walk and Jack Jandro made the Braves pay with a two run bomb to left to give the Lakers a 7-5 lead.

Waseca struck back in the seventh. Kelvin Nelson walked and scored on the front end of a double steal. He was dead to rights at home plate but the tag jarred the ball lose allowing Nelson to score.

The Lakers added insurance in the eighth inning as Tobin and Rendler both reached on walks and both would eventually scored.

Jamie's Deliverymen of the game.

1. Jack Jandro- Faribault. Jandro's two run shot in the seventh inning put the Lakers ahead for good

2. Austin Rendler- Faribault. Rendler got Faribault going in the first inning with a cannonating three run home run to give the Lakers the early lead. Rendler walked twice and scored three runs.

3. Peyton Garza- Waseca. Garza went a perfect 5-5 at the plate. In a statistical oddity, Garza did not score or drive in a run in spite of his big night at the plate.

Notes:

On Wednesday night, the Lakers traveled to Miesville to take on the defending Class A champions.

The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Joe Grote doubled and scored on a Drew Conrad single. A stolen base and wild pitch got Conrad to thid and he scored on a Riley Palmer groundout.

The Mudhens tied it up right away as two one out walks scored on a Ronnie Sweeney single and an Evan Nelson sacrifice fly.

Miesville was  gifted a pair of unearned runs in the second as a throwing error with two outs allowed a pair of runs to score.

There would be no scoring until the fourth when a two out single by Joey Werner scored a run. Four more runs in the fifth inning allowed the Mudhens to pull away for the 10-4 victory as they were recipients of 15 free passes for the night.
