Faribault Lakers Baseball- Lonsdale rallies to stun Lakers 12-11

Image
Today in joking around, I was referring to Lonsdale as Lons Vegas. After tonight's walk off loss to the Aces at Trenda Memorial Park, the Lakers hope that whatever happens in Lons Vegas, stays in Lons Vegas. It sure started off well enough. A Joey Grote two run double was followed by an Austin Rendler two run home run and it was 4-0 by the time Lonsdale got up to bat. The Lakers tacked on two more runs in the third before the Aces got on the board on a Ross Beumer two run homer. After the Lakers scored three more runs in the sixth, it looked like the Lakers were in cruise control... not so fast. Lonsdale scored three runs in the sixth, then four more in the seventh highlighted by a two run Chad Vosejpka home run. In the eighth another Ross Beumer gave the Aces their first lead of the game with a solo home run to make it 10-9 in favor of the Aces. The Lakers however took back the lead in the ninth, scoring two runs and having a run thrown out at home plate. That loomed large as Lon...

Faribault Lakers Baseball- Lakers mauled by Bears 12-1

Even the Gophers once won the Little Brown Jug, so tonight's Lakers defeat at the hands of Cannon Falls provides hope that the prestigious Corn Cob Bean Pod Cup will only have a one year stay in Goodhue County. Lakers starter Charlie Dunnick in his first outing of the year, struggled with his control. walking five Bears, and hitting two before being removed after nine batters and four runs in. Jay Burr greeted Lakers reliever Joe Grote with a two run single. It was a 6-0 game by the time the Lakers batters stepped to the plate.  The Lakers got on the board in the third inning. Jack Jandro singled and scored later in the inning on a Grote sacrifice fly. That seemed to poke the Bears as they struck for three runs of their own in the fourth. Taking advantage of two Lakers miscues to put up three runs highlighted by a Scott Peterson RBI single followed by a Jadan Winchell two run single that plated two more runs to make it a 9-1 game.  The final damage that enacted the 10 run merc...

Faribault Lakers Baseball- Lakers defeat St. Patrick 5-4 in Home Opener

Image
On paper it didn't look like a good match up for the Faribault Lakers on Sunday afternoon. After losing to previously winless Shakopee, the Lakers were coming home to face powerhouse St. Patrick. But as the saying goes, they play the game on the field and not on paper and Faribault on the strength of a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth inning won 5-4 on Sunday in their home opener. The Lakers got on the board right away in the first inning. Aiden Tobin walked to lead off the inning and scored on a two out single by Joe Grote down the third base line.  In the Lakers third, Jack Jandro reached after being hit by a pitch, Tobin followed with a single. With runners on second and third with two outs, a good read by Jandro on a passed ball scored a run with a subsequent wild pitch. The Irish got a run back in the top of the fifth. Tate Marland singled, advanced to third on a Korey Dahlberg double and scored on a ground out off the bat of Phil Garcia. The Lakers struck back with t...

Faribault Lakers Baseball: Four run fifth inning sinks Lakers in 5-3 loss to Shakopee.

On a cool Friday night in Shakopee at Joe Schleper Stadium, the Faribault Lakers fell to the Shakopee Coyotes by a 5-3 score. It looked good early on for the Lakers. a couple of Coyote miscues and a Jordan Nawrocki single got the Lakers on the board in the second inning. The Lakers added another in the third as two walks and a sacrifice set the stage for a Joe Grote sacrifice fly, driving in a returning Nick Rost.  In the Coyotes fourth, a throwing error with two outs allowed scored a run setting up the stage for the fifth inning outburst versus Lakers reliever Mason Miller. RBI singles by Ben Fredenburg and Jeff Hohenstein were followed later by the crushing blow, a two run Aidan Rau double to right field corner to make it a 5-2 game. The Lakers and in particular Jack Jandro manufactured a run in the sixth. Jandro was hit by a pitch, stole second, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a pass ball. In the eighth, it looked like the Lakers had another run but pinch hitte...

Faribault Lakers Baseball: Prior Lake defeat Lakers 6-2

Image
Faribault's early season struggles continued on Sunday as the Lakers could not keep up with the Prior Lake Mudcats, dropping a 6-2 decision at Veterans Field at Memorial Park on Sunday afternoon.  The Mudcats got on the board first without a benefit of a hit in the second inning. Lance Behrens walked, stole second and scored on a dropped fly ball. Three runs by the Mudcats allowed them to pull away in the fifth inning. Justin Hackett singled to lead off the inning. A double to right field by Nick Albee put two runners in scoring position. Both would score in the next at bat as Bear Blaney singled up the middle against a pulled in infield. Blaney scored with two outs on a double by Jonny Houston.  Meanwhile the Lakers bats had no answer for Mudcats lefty Ryan Watermann. The Lakers only could muster two singles and a walk in Watermann's six innings of work. Only one Laker got as far as second base.  In the seventh the Mudcats added on two more runs of the unearned var...

Faribault Lakers Baseball: Early miscues prove costly in 11-1 loss to Webster

Image
On Sunday afternoon at Webster Coliseum, the Sox took advantage of three Lakers errors in the second and third innings to put up six unearned runs to take a 6-0 lead and cruised to an 11-1 victory in DRS Baseball action. After a scoreless first inning, the first two Sox batters of the second inning reached. Peter Grassl singled to score the first run of the game before Kutter Herzig plated two more runs on a one out single versus Lakers hard luck starter Mason Miller.  In the third, the lead off batter for the Sox reached on a two base error. Miller retired the next two batters and would've been out of the inning. Jake Belille was hit by a pitch and Grassl struck again with a three run home run to make it 6-0.   The Lakers loaded the bases in the fifth and seventh inning but could only get a single run on a Austin Rendler grounder. Porter Sartor took over for Miller in the fourth and held the Sox at bay in the fourth through sixth innings but ran into trouble in the...
