Faribault Lakers Baseball: Prior Lake defeat Lakers 6-2

 Faribault's early season struggles continued on Sunday as the Lakers could not keep up with the Prior Lake Mudcats, dropping a 6-2 decision at Veterans Field at Memorial Park on Sunday afternoon. 

The Mudcats got on the board first without a benefit of a hit in the second inning. Lance Behrens walked, stole second and scored on a dropped fly ball.

Three runs by the Mudcats allowed them to pull away in the fifth inning. Justin Hackett singled to lead off the inning. A double to right field by Nick Albee put two runners in scoring position. Both would score in the next at bat as Bear Blaney singled up the middle against a pulled in infield. Blaney scored with two outs on a double by Jonny Houston. 

Meanwhile the Lakers bats had no answer for Mudcats lefty Ryan Watermann. The Lakers only could muster two singles and a walk in Watermann's six innings of work. Only one Laker got as far as second base. 

In the seventh the Mudcats added on two more runs of the unearned variety before Faribault could get on the board in the eighth. Jordan Nawrocki was hit by a pitch. Zander Fitzsimmons doubled to put runners on second and third. A wild pitch scored Nawrocki while a Tucker Alstead sacrifice fly plated a second run but the Lakers could not muster up any more offense.


Jamie's Deliverymen of the Game:

1. Ryan Watermann- Prior Lake. Watermann shutout Faribault for six innings allowing two hits, one walk and striking out 12 Lakers batters including five in a row between the third and fifth innings.

2. Zander Fitzsimmons- Faribault. Lost in the offensive troubles for Faribault was a 3-3 day by the Faribault #9 batter. 

3. Bear Blaney- Prior Lake. Blaney went 2-5 at the top of the Mudcats order with two runs scored and two runs batted in. 

The week ahead:

Faribault gets a chance to crack the win column as they visit Shakopee and those beautiful Metrodome seats in the grandstand. Next Sunday is the Home Opener as they host St. Patrick at 2 pm at Bell Field.

In a game with several twist and turns, it was a throwing error on a bunt attempt in the last of the ninth that walked off the Lakers on Thursday night in Hastings.  The Hawks got on the board first in the second inning as Johnny Tegland walked with one out and scored on the front end of a two run home run by Cooper DeSutter. In the Lakers fifth, they got on the board without a benefit of a hit. Two Lakers batters reached on walks. Tucker Alstead grounded to shortstop, but a throwing error on the relay to first allowed a run to score. Faribault Lakers Baseball: Lakers rally late to defeat Dundas 9-8

Dundas is known as the Town of Baseball. Rightfully so. The pedigree and tradition of Dukes baseball in Dundas is known and respected by all those in the amateur baseball community. On Wednesday night however, the Town of Baseball become Upset City as the Faribault Lakers knocked off the Dukes scoring a run in the eighth to take the lead and holding on to win 9-8 Grant Koch, fresh off of his high school career, got his first start on the mound as a Laker. The Dukes nicked him for a run in the first inning. Tate Journell walked, stole second base and scored on a one out single from Kyle Hrncir. The Lakers bounced back in the second innings. Mason Conrad led off with a single and advanced to third on a Dylan O'Neil double. Faribault Lakers Baseball: New Market ends Lakers season 17-15

In a  season that we knew was going to be challenging with the Lakers going through a youth movement, then was made even more challenging as the Lakers were deemed to be a Class A team, the challenges kept mounting, right into the playoffs. Through it all the Lakers never outwardly complained and gave it their all, right till the end in a two run loss to Class A powerhouse New Market.  Faribault jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of a Tucker Alstead 2nd inning run scoring double. Followed in the 3rd with an RBI groundnut by Aiden Tobin. The Muskies though hit paydirt in their half of the inning. An infield single and a bad hop single set the stage for an estimated 290 foot home run by Connor Weed to put the Muskies up 3-2. A Pick Three of errors with two outs and a Dylan O'Neil RBI single gave Faribault the lead back in the fourth, 4-3.
