Section 1A Baseball: Palmer, Bonde lead Lakers to 8-6 win over Rochester

It was the first game in Faribault for the Rochester Royals since the Fox 9 Townball Tour many years ago. In a crazy coincidence, Porter Sartor who went the distance for the Lakers that night in his last game before moving south, came in the eighth inning and recorded a five out save for Egan Bonde. 

 The Royals got on the board first courtesy of two hits sandwiched around a fielding error to load the bases. Roman Lynch coaxed a bases loaded walk to make it a 1-0 game. 

In the second, with one out, Logan Milene blasted a solo home run to right field to bump the lead to 2-0. 

The Lakers roared back to take the lead. In the fourth a leadoff walk to Riley Palmer scored on a Aiden Tobin single. In the fifth, with a runner on, Joe Grote parked one over the Madson Monster in left field to give the Lakers their first lead of the game at 3-2.  Palmer singled with one out, stole second, advanced to third on an error, and alertly stole home on a throw back to the mound. 

But fielding miscues befell the Lakers in the sixth inning. Two errors led to two runs scoring, with another potentially ball that could've been caught but was not touched resulting in an RBI for A.J. Vandereide to tie the game.

Palmer was once again in the middle of things in the sixth inning, this time launching a three run home run to right field to give the Lakers the lead back at 7-4. 

The Royals were not to be denied however. With one out Milene doubled to deep right followed by a two run home run by Sam Graunke to cut the lead to a run,

The Lakers scored in their fourth inning in a row as Mason Conrad doubled and scored on a Dom Erickson double to restore a two run lead at 8-6.

The Lakers shut the door in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the win.

1. Riley Palmer- Faribault. Palmer went 3-3 with a three run home run, three stolen bases including a steal of home, three runs scored, and may have saved a cat from a tree as far I know. 

2. Logan Milene- Rochester. Milene was a force all night. 3-4, falling a triple away from the cycle. Milene scored three runs.

3. Egan Bonde/Porter Sartor- Faribault via Buena Vista. Bonde gave the Lakers what they needed with two playoff games coming up this weekend, throwing 7.1 innings allowing six runs, four earned to get the win. Sartor came in to pitch in the eighth with two runners on, holding a two run lead. Sartor retired the final two batters of the eighth and pitched a clean ninth striking out three following a lead off walk.

Notes: The Lakers advance to Section play this weekend. They will host Hampton on Saturday. The two teams were to meet last Saturday in Hampton but the Cardinals were unable to field a full squad. If they win they will have a rematch with the Royals in Rochester Sunday. If they lose they will host Lakeville or Owatonna on Sunday at Bell Field with the season on the line.
 
As long time readers know, my main writing gig is covering the American Association and doing the occasional color for the Sioux Falls Canaries with Tanner Hoops. I will be heading to Geneva, Illinois on Saturday and will miss the games this weekend. But I will be rooting from afar. There is the goal for the weekend, Lakers. Win at least one game so that I can back aboard covering playoff baseball next weekend. Do it for the ol' blogger.

 Kevin Luckow (non member of IBWAA) It was the first visit to Bell Field for the Dundas Dukes in the modern era of Townball. The Lakers made it a memorable for the home town fans collecting 11 hits and 10 runs in a victory at Bell Field in Section One play on Wednesday night.  Dundas got on the board in the first as a Tate Journall lead off walk eventual scored on a fielder's choice. The Dukes added on in the second. Mike Ludwig surprised the entire ballpark by bunting, and reaching on a throwing error. Ludwig eventually scored on a fielding error with two outs.  In the Lakers half of the second, I saw something I've never seen in all my years of watching baseball. Due to two Lakers reaching on wild pitches on strike three, Dukes starter Landon Boisen struck out five batters in the inning. Faribault Lakers Baseball: New Market ends Lakers season 17-15

In a  season that we knew was going to be challenging with the Lakers going through a youth movement, then was made even more challenging as the Lakers were deemed to be a Class A team, the challenges kept mounting, right into the playoffs. Through it all the Lakers never outwardly complained and gave it their all, right till the end in a two run loss to Class A powerhouse New Market.  Faribault jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of a Tucker Alstead 2nd inning run scoring double. Followed in the 3rd with an RBI groundnut by Aiden Tobin. The Muskies though hit paydirt in their half of the inning. An infield single and a bad hop single set the stage for an estimated 290 foot home run by Connor Weed to put the Muskies up 3-2. A Pick Three of errors with two outs and a Dylan O'Neil RBI single gave Faribault the lead back in the fourth, 4-3. DRS Baseball: Veseli downs Faribault 7-1.

The Lakers coming off a big win over Hastings on Sunday were looking to build some momentum. Veseli had other ideas defeating their DRS rival on Wednesday night in Veseli.  The Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Drew Conrad tripled down the right field line and scored on a Aiden Tobin sacrifice fly. The Warriors countered as Matt Perkinson's two out single cashed in a lead off walk. Two batters  later, Michael Bruner singled to score Perkinson to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead after an inning. In the Veseli second inning, Ethan Paler was hit by a pitch with one out. On a delay steal, Paler ended up on third on a throwing error. Kyle Carlberg then singled to drive in Paler. Veseli added to the lead in the fourth as an infield single by Perkinson drove in his second run of the night. A throwing error in the last of the fifth advanced Plaer to second.
