Faribault Lakers Baseball- Lakers mauled by Bears 12-1
Even the Gophers once won the Little Brown Jug, so tonight's Lakers defeat at the hands of Cannon Falls provides hope that the prestigious Corn Cob Bean Pod Cup will only have a one year stay in Goodhue County.
Lakers starter Charlie Dunnick in his first outing of the year, struggled with his control. walking five Bears, and hitting two before being removed after nine batters and four runs in. Jay Burr greeted Lakers reliever Joe Grote with a two run single. It was a 6-0 game by the time the Lakers batters stepped to the plate.
The Lakers got on the board in the third inning. Jack Jandro singled and scored later in the inning on a Grote sacrifice fly.
That seemed to poke the Bears as they struck for three runs of their own in the fourth. Taking advantage of two Lakers miscues to put up three runs highlighted by a Scott Peterson RBI single followed by a Jadan Winchell two run single that plated two more runs to make it a 9-1 game.
The final damage that enacted the 10 run mercy rule occurred in the top of the seventh inning. After a double that was lost in the sky and two walks, Burr struck again with a two run double with the third run of the frame scoring on an error.
