Faribault Lakers Baseball: Early miscues prove costly in 11-1 loss to Webster
On Sunday afternoon at Webster Coliseum, the Sox took advantage of three Lakers errors in the second and third innings to put up six unearned runs to take a 6-0 lead and cruised to an 11-1 victory in DRS Baseball action.
After a scoreless first inning, the first two Sox batters of the second inning reached. Peter Grassl singled to score the first run of the game before Kutter Herzig plated two more runs on a one out single versus Lakers hard luck starter Mason Miller.
In the third, the lead off batter for the Sox reached on a two base error. Miller retired the next two batters and would've been out of the inning. Jake Belille was hit by a pitch and Grassl struck again with a three run home run to make it 6-0.
The Lakers loaded the bases in the fifth and seventh inning but could only get a single run on a Austin Rendler grounder.
Porter Sartor took over for Miller in the fourth and held the Sox at bay in the fourth through sixth innings but ran into trouble in the seventh. A bases loaded hit by pitch scored a run and ended Sartor's day. Joey Grote came in and was greeted by a grand slam by Will Wareham that ended the game via the 10 run mercy rule at 11-1.
1. Peter Grassl- Webster. Grassl went 4-4 with a triple, three runs scored and three runs batted in.
2. Webster pitching staff- The Sox pitching staff featuring Jordan Huwe, Austin Greven, Peter Tveite, and Nick Dorfman allowed only two Lakers base hits.
3. Will Wareham- Wareham owes Webster Sports and Entertainment an apology as his grand slam in the seventh inning ended the game costing the Sox organization two innings of concessions.
Notes:
Faribault drops to 0-2 with the loss with two tough road assignments to begin the year, losing at Elko 9-1 last Sunday before dropping today's game. The Lakers will continue their stretch of road games, going to Prior Lake next Sunday for a 2pm game, and a Friday night game a week from Friday in Shakopee before coming back to Bell Field on Sunday May 25th for a tough matchup for home opener as St. Patrick visits for a 2 pm first pitch.
For those who haven't heard, it's going to be a different season when it comes to section play and post season. Minnesota Amateur Baseball has shaken up things again going to a three class points based system. So there will be three different classes playing DRS Baseball and the section playoffs will look quite different. Although league standings will be kept, there will be point system implemented for awarding points for victories going by what class each team in a game is in.
The standings sheet from last week above explains it better.
I know this is yet another blog I've created. But what I'm hoping to accomplish with this is to make for easy navigating for those following the Lakers. Instead of having to file through American Association blogs, this is your one spot stop for any of my Lakers coverage this season. Special thanks to Jamie's Delivery for sponsoring the three Deliverymen of the game.
