Faribault Lakers Baseball: Lakers defeat Aces 9-3

After a rough night across the border in River Falls, the Lakers were right back in action on Thursday night at Bell Field in DRS League action. With a thin roster, it didn't matter as the Lakers avenged a walk off loss to Lonsdale by defeating the Aces 9-3.

Faribault got on the board first. Zander Fitzsimmons reached on a throwing error, Aiden Tobin followed with an RBI single before Jack Jandro connected on a two run home run to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead.

It remained a 3-0 game until the sixth when Lonsdale struck back. Marty Kalina worked a lead off walk, followed by an infield single by Teagan Mellgren. With two runners in scoring position, Jack Skluzacek singled to drive in a pair of runs.

In the Aces' seventh, three straight hits with one out loaded the bases before Skluzacek drew a two out bases loaded walk to tie the game.

The Lakers took back the lead in their half of the seventh. Dylan O'Neil and Tobin singled with one out. Austin Rendler grounded to short but the errant throw allowed O'Neil to score. Jandro followed with a ground out that scored Tobin to make it a 5-3 game. After a single and a walk loaded the bases, Kyle Murphy, Grant Koch and Fitzsimmons all Drew bases loaded walks to make it an 8-3 ball game.

The Lakers tacked on a run in the eighth as Tobin walked to lead off and scored on a wild pitch.

Jamie's Deliverymen of the Game:

1. Mason Miller, Faribault. The lefty gave the Lakers what they needed with a thin roster tonight, throwing seven innings, allowing three runs, one earned in seven innings of work to pick up the win.

2. Jack Jandro, Faribault. If one has been following the Lakers as the season draws on, they will have noticed that Jandro has been hitting with some power. That showed tonight in his two run home run in the first inning to stake the Lakers to a three run lead. Jan

3. Kyle Murphy, Faribault. If it wasn't for Murphy's Facebook post an hour or so before the game, I would've had no idea the game scheduled for Friday was moved up to Thursday. And there would've been a game story shorter than last night's. Murphy also played late in the game, getting an RBI on a bases loaded walk.

Up next:

The Lakers go to Union Hill for a game on Sunday at 2pm. The next game after that isn't till the 21st when the Lakers face St. Benedict making up the postponed game in St. Benedict.

However my Up Next doesn't come till playoff time. I have family commitments on Sunday and then will be  covering American Association for the rest of the regular season. I'll be back for the playoffs, whatever that presents to the Lakers. Follow the Lakers on X, @FaribaultLakers for any news and scores the rest of the regular season.
