Faribault Lakers Baseball: Home Run Derby as Muskies defeat Lakers 18-6
The Faribault Lakers fell to two opponents tonight, a talented New Market Muskies team and a ballpark where the ball flies real well. The combo of the both left the Lakers with an 18-6 loss.
Fans were still settling their tab at The Doublewide when the Lakers scored in the first inning. A bobbled grounder to short by Drew Conrad was ruled a hit. After a stolen base and wild pitch, Aiden Tobin drove Conrad in on a grounder to short.
The Muskies struck back as pitcher and former St. Paul Saints outfielder Andy Henkemeyer hit a solo shot to right field.
In the third the Muskies took the lead. After two singles and a walk loaded the bases, a sacrifice fly by Gabe Bombardier scored a run. After an fielding error loaded the bases, Dalton Kesti drove a run with a sacrifice fly before Ben Glad added a two run double to make it a 5-1 game.
The Lakers came back with a run of their own in the fourth as Dylan O'Neil led off with a walk and scored from first on a Jack Jandro double.
However the Muskies tacked on in their half of the fourth. Adam Weed led off with a single and scored one out later on a Alex Berreth double. Josh Berreth followed with a two run shot over the right field wall to make it an 8-2 game.
But the Lakers struck right back in the fifth. After two singles, an Austin Rendler double scored a run and Dylan O'Neil followed with a three run home run to get the Lakers back within two runs at 8-6.
In the last half of the frame, Jake Lundquist walked and scored on an Adam Weed two run home run. Henkemeyer followed with his second home run of the night to put the Muskies up 11-6.
After nearly having the first 1-2-3 inning, Jake Lundquist said, not so fast, doubling to deep center field before Weed hit his second home run in consecutive innings. The next three batters reached and Bombardier blooped a single to score a run. With the bases still full, Cal Schmelzie emptied them with a grand slam and like that it was 18-6.

1. Andy Henkemeyer- New Market. Henkemeyer went the distance on the mound to spare the Muskies bullpen for their rivalry matchup with Elko tomorrow night. At the plate Henkemeyer went 3-4 with two solo home runs, a single and walk, scoring four runs.
2. Adam Weed- New Market. Weed smoked two home runs in two innings, both of them two run shots in the fifth and sixth innings, going 3-5 with three runs scored.
3. Alex Berreth- New Market. Berreth went 3-3, was hit by a pitch, walked and scored three runs, while driving in a run.
