Faribault Lakers Baseball: Sox defeat Lakers 5-1

Webster came to Faribault and defeated the Lakers with a workmen's like effort scoring five in the first five innings to pick up the win at Bell Field on Wednesday night. 

 Webster got on the board right away. Kutter Herzig singled and eventually scored after an errant throw on a Peter Grassl steal attempt. Will Wareham followed with a double that plated Grassl, but Wareham was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. 

In the second inning Jordan Huwe singled to lead off and scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 game. 

The Sox got back on the attack in the fourth inning. Ryan Joyner led off with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Herzig plated Joyner on a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 lead. 

The first four batters reached for the Sox in the fifth with Jake Belille doubling and scoring on a bases loaded walk to Huwe. But a line out double play and a ground out ended what was looking like a major threat. 

The Lakers scored their run in the fifth inning. Tyler Francis wore one to get on base to lead off the inning and scored later after a throwing error on a fielder's choice.

1. Peter Grassl- Webster. Grassl was perfect at the plate going 2-2 with a sacrifice fly RBI, two walks and a run scored.

2. Jake Ekness- Webster. Ekness- went 3-5 for the night. the only Sox batter to collect three hits. 

3. Jackson Renz- Webster. The hard throwing right-hander from Minnesota State came in to pitch in the eighth and struck out five batters, allowing a hit.

Tough back to back for the Lakers as they host Union Hill at 7:30 on Friday night then go to St. Benedict for a 2 pm Saturday matinee.

In a game with several twist and turns, it was a throwing error on a bunt attempt in the last of the ninth that walked off the Lakers on Thursday night in Hastings.  The Hawks got on the board first in the second inning as Johnny Tegland walked with one out and scored on the front end of a two run home run by Cooper DeSutter. In the Lakers fifth, they got on the board without a benefit of a hit. Two Lakers batters reached on walks. Tucker Alstead grounded to shortstop, but a throwing error on the relay to first allowed a run to score. Zander Fitzsimmons followed with the first Lakers hit of the night but Alstead was thrown out trying to reach third base.  Hastings regained their two run lead in the last of the fifth on a Jack Seleski RBI single. Faribault Lakers Baseball: Lakers rally late to defeat Dundas 9-8

Dundas is known as the Town of Baseball. Rightfully so. The pedigree and tradition of Dukes baseball in Dundas is known and respected by all those in the amateur baseball community. On Wednesday night however, the Town of Baseball become Upset City as the Faribault Lakers knocked off the Dukes scoring a run in the eighth to take the lead and holding on to win 9-8 Grant Koch, fresh off of his high school career, got his first start on the mound as a Laker. The Dukes nicked him for a run in the first inning. Tate Journell walked, stole second base and scored on a one out single from Kyle Hrncir. The Lakers bounced back in the second innings. Mason Conrad led off with a single and advanced to third on a Dylan O'Neil double. Faribault Lakers Baseball: New Market ends Lakers season 17-15

In a  season that we knew was going to be challenging with the Lakers going through a youth movement, then was made even more challenging as the Lakers were deemed to be a Class A team, the challenges kept mounting, right into the playoffs. Through it all the Lakers never outwardly complained and gave it their all, right till the end in a two run loss to Class A powerhouse New Market.  Faribault jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of a Tucker Alstead 2nd inning run scoring double. Followed in the 3rd with an RBI groundnut by Aiden Tobin. The Muskies though hit paydirt in their half of the inning. An infield single and a bad hop single set the stage for an estimated 290 foot home run by Connor Weed to put the Muskies up 3-2. A Pick Three of errors with two outs and a Dylan O'Neil RBI single gave Faribault the lead back in the fourth, 4-3.
