Faribault Lakers Baseball: Lakers shutout New Prague Orioles 3-0

Maybe the week long sabbatical the Faribault Lakers got due to postponements was just what they needed. The Lakers have now won two in a row after defeating the New Prague Orioles on Sunday after a complete game shutout, 3-0. 

In a repeat from Friday night's win over Prior Lake, the Lakers got on the board first. With one out Zander FItzsimmons singled, Aiden Tobin followed with a bunt single. With runners on the corners with two outs, Austin Rendler reached on an infield single to score Fitzsimmons. 

The Lakers added a run in the third. Tobin reached on an infield single, stole second and later scored when with two outs a fly ball was dropped in left field.

A final run was added by the Lakers without a ball leaving the infield. Tucker Alstead led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Nawrocki and scored via pair of wild pitches.

1. Egan Bonde- Faribault. To paraphrase Bonde's former classmate at Buena Vista and current Sioux Falls Canaries broadcaster Tanner Hoops, "Superman wears Egan Bonde pajamas". Bonde threw the complete game shutout scattering 11 hits, walking nobody and striking out six Orioles.

2. Aiden Tobin- Faribault. Tobin promoted to the #3 spot in the batting order went 2-3 with a walk and a run scored and was instrumental in Faribault's first run of the game. 

3. Eric Wagner- New Prague. Wagner had three of the Orioles 11 hits going 3-4 on the day with a double in the seventh inning when New Prague threatened to score their first runs of the game.

The road ahead:

The Lakers will play a makeup game at the Fishbowl in New Market at 6pm on Tuesday night. Pregaming at the Doublewide I heard is always a good time. The Lakers will come back the next night for a non league game versus the Prior Lake Jays.

In a game with several twist and turns, it was a throwing error on a bunt attempt in the last of the ninth that walked off the Lakers on Thursday night in Hastings.  The Hawks got on the board first in the second inning as Johnny Tegland walked with one out and scored on the front end of a two run home run by Cooper DeSutter. In the Lakers fifth, they got on the board without a benefit of a hit. Two Lakers batters reached on walks. Tucker Alstead grounded to shortstop, but a throwing error on the relay to first allowed a run to score. Faribault Lakers Baseball: Lakers rally late to defeat Dundas 9-8

Dundas is known as the Town of Baseball. Rightfully so. The pedigree and tradition of Dukes baseball in Dundas is known and respected by all those in the amateur baseball community. On Wednesday night however, the Town of Baseball become Upset City as the Faribault Lakers knocked off the Dukes scoring a run in the eighth to take the lead and holding on to win 9-8 Grant Koch, fresh off of his high school career, got his first start on the mound as a Laker. The Dukes nicked him for a run in the first inning. Tate Journell walked, stole second base and scored on a one out single from Kyle Hrncir. The Lakers bounced back in the second innings. Mason Conrad led off with a single and advanced to third on a Dylan O'Neil double. Faribault Lakers Baseball: New Market ends Lakers season 17-15

In a  season that we knew was going to be challenging with the Lakers going through a youth movement, then was made even more challenging as the Lakers were deemed to be a Class A team, the challenges kept mounting, right into the playoffs. Through it all the Lakers never outwardly complained and gave it their all, right till the end in a two run loss to Class A powerhouse New Market.  Faribault jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of a Tucker Alstead 2nd inning run scoring double. Followed in the 3rd with an RBI groundnut by Aiden Tobin. The Muskies though hit paydirt in their half of the inning. An infield single and a bad hop single set the stage for an estimated 290 foot home run by Connor Weed to put the Muskies up 3-2. A Pick Three of errors with two outs and a Dylan O'Neil RBI single gave Faribault the lead back in the fourth, 4-3.
