Faribault Lakers Baseball: Lakers reel in Prior Lake Mudcats 6-3
It's a good news, bad news scenario schedule wise for the Faribault Lakers. After a postponement against St. Benedict last Saturday and a rainout at New Market on Wednesday, the Lakers were a well rested team going into the game Friday night at Bell Field. But, they will play four out of six days before the Independence Day break. They got on the right track scoring four runs late to turn a 3-2 into a 6-3 win over the Prior Lake Mudcats.
It was the Lakers getting on the board first in the second inning. Austin Rendler doubled to lead off the inning and after that it was a pair of Mudcat miscues that aided the Lakers to a 2-0 lead. A Dylan O'Neil sacrifice bunt was thrown away allowing Rendler to score. After a Mason Conrad walk, Tucker Alstead grounded a ball to first baseman Ben Morrison. Morrison's momentum took him away from first. A flip to Ben Kelsey covering first was dropped allowing Alstead to reach and load the bases. Jack Jandro followed with a fielder's choice to bring in the second run of the inning.
It was a two out rally consisting of only two at bats that knotted the game at two in the fourth. Cole Clausen singled and Charlie Bredeson followed with a two run home run to tie the game.
In the sixth, the Mudcats took the lead, once again with two outs. Bredeson nearly homered again, but settled for a double. Caden Quinn followed with a single that was bobbled in shallow left field allowing Bredeson to score easily and Quinn advanced to second. Ben Morrison followed with a single that resulted in three different run downs with Quinn eventually retired at home plate.
Faribault knotted the game up at three as third baseman Aiden Tobin homered to left field to lead off the inning. Joe Grote followed with a double. With two outs Mason Conrad singled up the middle to put the Lakers back in the lead.
Insurance runs were added in the eighth as Jack Jandro reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a Drew Conrad single. An overthrow trying to throw out Jandro at home allowed Conrad to advance to third. Tobin followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-3 game.
