Faribault Lakers Baseball: Lakers outslugged by Wanamingo 15-10
On a night where the County Fair started right down the round, the Lakers and Wanamingo went for a night long ride around the bases with the Jacks having five extra ride tickets.
The Jacks were not wasting daylight. After the lead off batter reached on an error, Alex Roosen doubled to deep left field. With runners in scoring position, a Josh Matonich ground out scored a run. Eric Swiggum followed with a two run shot. It was 3-0 while fans were still getting their Busch Lights and Bauer Burgers.
The Lakers decided to score some runs for the fans who missed the Jacks runs in the top of the frame. With two runners on, Austin Rendler doubled in a run. Jack Jandro followed with a grounder to third, the throw went to home where it was dropped, allowing Aiden Tobin to score. Adam Vos followed with a two run bloop single to give the Lakers a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Jandro and Atley Qualey both reached to lead off the inning. With both in scoring position, a throwing error on a throw home on a Carter Quinlan grounder allowed both runners to score. After a Zander Fitzsimmons single to put runners on the corners, a Joe Grote double plated a run. Drew Conrad poked a single to left that scored both runners to give the Lakers a five run inning, stretching the lead to 9-3.
The Jacks rallied for three runs in the fourth. Eric Swiggum connected for his second home run of the game, a two run blow clearing the Madson Monster in left field. With runners on second and third with two outs, Riley Forbes had an infield single, with the throw pulling Rendler off of first. A second runner tried to score but Rendler gunned him out at home to end the rally, with the Lakers still holding a 9-6 lead.
In the seventh the Jacks struck again. With two runners on without the benefit of a hit. Sam Roosen connected for a three run home run to tie the game at nine. With two out and a runner on third, Gavin Sommer singled to give the Jacks their first lead since the top of the first inning.
It was the Jacks adding a run in the eighth. A Gavin Roosen lead off double scored on a fielder's choice from Riley Forbes. Two batters later Matonich singled in a run to give the Jacks a 12-9 lead. With runners on the corner, a wild pitch scored Alex Roosen.
The Jacks called Gavin Roosen for their insurance needs as his single drove in the 14th run of the night for Wanamingo. Gavin Roosen eventually scored with the help of two wild pitches.
Austin Rendler homered to lead off the Lakers ninth, but the Lakers could not do anything from there.
