DRS Baseball- Conrad, Palmer power Faribault to a 13-6 win over Webster

It wasn't the usual Lakers game plan. A team that utilizes small ball to put runs on the board, utilized the long ball tonight to take down the Webster Sox for the first time in recent memory on Friday night at Bell Field.  

It was an eventful first inning. Webster had three hits but could not muster a run, getting runners thrown out at third and home. The Lakers found paydirt in the form of two bloop singles to shallow right followed by a three run home run by Riley Palmer to jump out to a 3-0 lead. 

Webster got one back in the second inning. Three consecutive singles with one out loaded the bases. A fielder's choice off the bat of pitcher Johnny Checheris to make it a 3-1 game. 

The Lakers utilized the three run home run again in the fifth. After Zander Fitzsimmons singled and Joe Grote doubled to deep left, Drew Conrad homered to center to give the Lakers a 6-1 lead. 

But the Sox would not be denied. Will Arendt led off the sixth with a solo home run. Later with two outs and the bases loaded, Checheris came through again with a two run single to cut the Lakers lead to 6-4. 

The Sox inched to within a run in the seventh. Peter Grassl led off with a double and scored with two outs on a single by Matthew Magnusonm, nearly caught in center field by Jack Jandro. Will Wareham singled to nove the tying run into scoring position before the side was retired. 

The Lakers restored their two run lead in the bottom half of the inning as a leadoff walk by Conrad eventually scored on a RBI single by Palmer. 

In the eighth, the Sox once again came up with a run as a leadoff walked was eventually cashed in a Grassl sacrifice fly. 

Once again the Lakers matched the Sox as Grote drew a bases loaded walk to score a run. Conrad followed with a single that scored two runs. An errant throw from left field scored a third run to make it a 11-6 game. On the next pitch, Conrad scored on a wild pitch and the Lakers had their biggest lead of the night, 12-6. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Lakers scored their sixth run of the inning on a wild pitch.

1. Drew Conrad- Faribault. Conrad did it all for the Lakers tonight. A three run home run, a two run single in the eighth, and scored four runs on a 3-4 evening at the plate. Conrad picked up the save, coming into the game in the eighth and retiring three straight Sox to maintain a one run lead. 

2. Riley Palmer- Faribault. Palmer set the tone for the game with a three run home run in the first inning. Palmer was 2-3 for the night with four runs batted in, and two runs scored.

3. Joe Grote- Faribault. Grote on a thin pitching staff tonight, gutted out seven plus innings, scattering 13 hits, allowing six runs. Grote also doubled and scored a pair of runs.

 Kevin Luckow (non member of IBWAA) It was the first visit to Bell Field for the Dundas Dukes in the modern era of Townball. The Lakers made it a memorable for the home town fans collecting 11 hits and 10 runs in a victory at Bell Field in Section One play on Wednesday night.  Dundas got on the board in the first as a Tate Journall lead off walk eventual scored on a fielder's choice. The Dukes added on in the second. Mike Ludwig surprised the entire ballpark by bunting, and reaching on a throwing error. Ludwig eventually scored on a fielding error with two outs.  In the Lakers half of the second, I saw something I've never seen in all my years of watching baseball. Due to two Lakers reaching on wild pitches on strike three, Dukes starter Landon Boisen struck out five batters in the inning. Faribault Lakers Baseball: New Market ends Lakers season 17-15

In a  season that we knew was going to be challenging with the Lakers going through a youth movement, then was made even more challenging as the Lakers were deemed to be a Class A team, the challenges kept mounting, right into the playoffs. Through it all the Lakers never outwardly complained and gave it their all, right till the end in a two run loss to Class A powerhouse New Market.  Faribault jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of a Tucker Alstead 2nd inning run scoring double. Followed in the 3rd with an RBI groundnut by Aiden Tobin. The Muskies though hit paydirt in their half of the inning. An infield single and a bad hop single set the stage for an estimated 290 foot home run by Connor Weed to put the Muskies up 3-2. A Pick Three of errors with two outs and a Dylan O'Neil RBI single gave Faribault the lead back in the fourth, 4-3. DRS Baseball: Veseli downs Faribault 7-1.

The Lakers coming off a big win over Hastings on Sunday were looking to build some momentum. Veseli had other ideas defeating their DRS rival on Wednesday night in Veseli.  The Lakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Drew Conrad tripled down the right field line and scored on a Aiden Tobin sacrifice fly. The Warriors countered as Matt Perkinson's two out single cashed in a lead off walk. Two batters  later, Michael Bruner singled to score Perkinson to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead after an inning. In the Veseli second inning, Ethan Paler was hit by a pitch with one out. On a delay steal, Paler ended up on third on a throwing error. Kyle Carlberg then singled to drive in Paler. Veseli added to the lead in the fourth as an infield single by Perkinson drove in his second run of the night. A throwing error in the last of the fifth advanced Plaer to second.
